In December 1872, sailors on a passing ship discovered the Mary Celeste, an American cargo ship floating in the Atlantic Ocean east of the Azores. There were no people on board the Mary Celeste: its captain and the crew of nine people were all gone. Its lifeboat (a small boat that ships carry for emergency purposes) was missing. Several theories have been proposed to explain what happened to the ten people who had been aboard the Mary Celeste.
One theory is that the crew of the Mary Celeste fell victim to pirates. Pirates in the area were known to attack commercial ships and capture sailors, then the pirates demanded money from the company that had employed the sailors for sailors' release. The theory is that pirates attacked the Mary Celeste and took everyone on board captive.
A second theory is based on the fact that the Mary Celeste was transporting Flammable liquid stored in barrels. Some of the barrels were found empty when the Mary Celeste was recovered, suggesting they might have leaked during the voyage. The flammable liquid leaking from the barrels may have created a danger of explosion and caused the sailors to escape to the lifeboat to wait until the danger passed. As they were waiting, the lifeboat may have had an accident, and the crew was lost.
The third theory asserts that the captain and crew may have determined that the ship was in danger of sinking. This is supported by the discovery that more than one meter of water had leaked into the ship's bottom, and only one water pump on the ship was in working order. Rather than wait for the Mary Celeste to sink, the captain may have ordered everyone to get into the lifeboat and use it to reach the safety of the nearby island of Santa Maria.

1 海盗抓人的主要原因就是为了钱,但是没有人去找这个船的公司要钱。additionally, nothing missing on board,it is highly unlikely the pirates leave behind valuable things
2 液体泄漏会有strong smell around ship stay for a while,但是后面发现ship的sailors didn’t mention any of smell
3 水会漏一点到船里,the ship 可以装一点水。the sailors are experienced, they would recognized if the ship is in good condition.
also, taking a lifeboat to the island is more risky than stay in the ship

1)题目:Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Students can learn as much by watchingmoviesas they can learn by reading books.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
2)范文:
Book indeed has played an irreplaceable role in our life, for the information conveyed consistently over centuries. From my perspective, individuals actually could learn more through reading books compared with watching movies.
To begin with, it is quite obvious that books literally have been utilized as approaches to take notes of traditional wisdom, which could seldom be presented exactly on the screen. The primary reason is that due to the rapid development of human’s civilization, the wisdom of the ancient history could only be observed through antique books stored in the museum or original scripts, whose value could be way beyond the profit the film companies could even take into account. Undoubtedly, what they care most is always nothing but how to intrigue the audience to pour into the cinemas to do them a favor with the box-office. Consequently, the real precious treasure are always beneath the words hidden under the words of old books instead of transformed into movies which largely are based on popular novels. Taking the traditional valuable books introducing philosophy as an example, as masterpieces of the ancestors, prominent in both eastern and western countries, they could barely be conducted as movies and played on the screen, since very minority of individuals would step into the cinema to appreciate them. The same theory could be excessively acceptable when explaining the huge gap of popularity between the blockbusters and significant exhibitions in museums. Thus, ones could barely learn sufficient knowledge from the history simply through the movies.
Besides that, the books could contain more information even though the same story is regenerated into movies. What could be easily noticed is that some of the stories with high popularity are usually played on the screen later, aiming at attracting more fans. For those appreciating the movies could rarely deny that the content of the movies indeed becomes quite less compared with the original story, since the film makers are required to change some of the details or even emit the irrelevant messages to enable it more approachable for the film making process, including the cost of the movies or the actors’ personal features. Thus, one could easily distinguish the difference between the story and the movie, since people could actually enjoy more information in the books. For instance, almost all of the fans of harry potter admitted they could dig out more description of the characters in the books, in spite of becoming big fans of the movie later, since the seven books undoubtedly introduced more information about the magic world as well as the background information of the special kids chosen to defeat the big devil, You Know Who.
To put everything in a nutshell, reading books could bring more benefits for people based on its profound history and more sufficient information.
