模考42 Task 4
Sample Answer
Well, the professor gives us a lecture on habituation meaning an animal’s learning manner which slowly alters its behaving instinct. And he demonstrates an example of prairie dogs to elaborate this concept. When prairie dogs encounter a person for the very first time, they tend to respond by barking loudly and leaping violently, giving other prairie dogs close to them a warning to run away since mankind is considered as their possible predator. This behavioral pattern is repeated whenever a human being shows up in their habitat. However, if each day people go past the animals’ residential area, none of whom attempts to eat them or kill them like any other predators, say, a snake or a hawk, the prairie dogs will progressively cease to shout or jump. Therefore, their natural or instinctive behavior of barking or jumping is changed. All in all, this is what is called animal’s habituation.
