参考范文:
The 21st century provides many distractions for young people, one of which is playing video games. Some people think that playing video games in class can be useful for students. However, I strongly disagree with this viewpoint. I will explain further using two main reasons.
My initial point refers to the addictive nature of video games for young people. They can dominate attention at the expense of everything else. For this reason, it is problematic to attempt to use them as a classroom learning tool. My younger brother's case is a prime example of this. Since the age of five, he has loved playing video games, and he was very excited when a teacher invited students to bring their devices into class to assist with learning. My mother was hesitant, but nevertheless, she let him take his device into school. Unfortunately, the experiment did not seem to work as the students got absorbed in playing their favorite games and did not follow the teacher's instructions for the activities. Moreover, my brother took his device into other classes, too, and got into trouble for playing games when he should have been paying attention to other things. In the end, the school banned all video games, even as learning tools.
Another reason concerns the effect on the behavior of some games on children. One issue is the content of some games, which can be violent and antisocial. In addition, there is some evidence that these violent video games can make some children more aggressive. Therefore, bringing the games into school, where students are surrounded by many other people, can invite trouble. I recall that there was a case of this at my primary school. The teachers allowed us to bring in video games once a week to use in the classroom as learning tools. For a short time, it seemed like an interesting new idea, but the problem was that some students liked calmer strategy-based games, whereas others preferred shooting and killing games. There were a number of cases where some of the boys became aggressive immediately after playing the more adrenaline-inducing, violent games. This led to fights and the teacher confiscating the games. There is also a connected issue of potential mental health problems among children who play computer games too frequently. Research has shown that children who spend too long in virtual worlds can become detached from the real world, leading to psychological problems.
In short, I firmly believe that video games should not be encouraged as learning tools at primary schools. The addictive nature of many of these games can lead to students being distracted from the important process of studying. Also, playing video games can have an adverse effect on young people's behavior, which can lead to discipline and mental problems in class.
