The quality of education provided plays an important role in both universities’ prestige and enrollment of good students. There are numerous kinds of methods available to enhance the quality of education such as hiring highly certified teachers, improving equipment and facilities and spending more money on professors’ salaries. Many people think that increasing professors’ salaries can make the education better, while others hold an opposite opinion that providing high salaries is not the most effective way to ensure a good education. As far as I am concerned, it is valid to increase salaries of the professors.
First, professors can use their higher salaries to cover increasing daily expenses. Nowadays, the cost of living is going up, including the rise of price of real estate, clothes, and daily commodities. Professors are humans and get lives to live. And a higher payment can effectively relieve financial burden on professors, leaving them one less thing to worry about. Therefore, universities should spend more money on salaries for professors and they candevote more of their attention to instructing and researching.
Second, higher salaries can inspire the professors’ motivation in teaching. They can invest their money in buying books and some materials which make their lectures more enjoyable. Apart from teaching, professors need to do research, which has its costs. Benefiting from high salary, they are more capable of running cutting-edge experiment, hiring competent assistants, and buying academic resources. Moreover, if a professor receives a low salary, his teachingcould be distracted by him being forced to juggle between jobs, which may make him lose his enthusiasm in teaching, which in turn will harm the quality of education.
Finally, in this competitive world, paying higher salaries is key to attracting more higher level professors. Undoubtedly, professors with higher qualifications and degrees can improve the quality of education and the reputation of universities. Promising higher salaries is definitely one of the effective ways to attract these talents. As a result, universities can have more qualified staff and therefore are more likely to be chosen by the most brilliant students and their parents. It will certainly help the schools polish their education as well as their reputation.
To sum up, improving salaries of professors is an effective way to increase the education quality of universities because it can reduce teachers’ financial problems, enhance their inspiration, and appeal to more intelligent talents. By using this method, I believe, the education quality of universities will reach a new level.
