Great attention has been paid to people’s work due to the fierce competition nowadays. At the moment, a minority of people propose that working quickly and risk making mistakes is worth being praised. However, from my perspective, it is more crucial to work slowly and make sure everything is right.
To begin with, it is working slowly and making sure everything is correct that helps engineers avoid injuries and death for the public. People are prone to relax and engage in recreational activities in amusement parks like Disneyland, in which there are facilities including roller coaster, Giant Frisbee and so on. However, all these facilities mentioned contain risk, requiring regular examination by trained engineers, or it may cause damage. For example, my uncle Tom works in an international company, responsible for devising and examining entertainment facilities for all parks. Every time, I observed him painting the frame of what he planed to make, he always did experiments through his models and revised constantly with the result that he consumed a large amount of time. Feeling perplexed, I asked uncle why did he repeat doing so. Tom, smiled and calm, told me, considering the devastating consequences that may happen in the future, an engineer is responsible for many people’s lives and undoubtedly should spare efforts to do everything correctly, even it is time-consuming.
Admittedly, working quickly and risking making mistakes has it own benefits. Some people argue if one has to sacrifice a few mistakes for efficiency, one needs not to worry too much about taking the risks. The valuable experience and benefits we gain in the process of making mistakes contribute a lot for our personal development. Needless to say, one would never make progress unless he commits certain mistakes and knows his own weaknesses. Nevertheless, these people have overlooked the real situation. For instance, an employee, who was just graduated from university, often made mistakes when asked to finish assignments from his boss, even though his efficiency is high. It is not hard to imagine that his leader was reluctant to regard him as a talent and potential person, which undermined his possibility to be promoted. In terms of the whole company, any leader will never be willing to see his employees making mistakes continually.
In conclusion, hardly can people cause great damages for the public and get promoted without working slowly and making sure everything is correct.
