In the profit-oriented society, people are involved in fierce competition. Seeking more
profits, they need to be acute and to seize opportunities. In such a case, some people
insist that people should obtain information from different sources and I totally agree with
it.
To begin with, collecting from various sources helps people guarantee the accuracy of information, thus avoiding making mistakes. Driven by interest, media including TV programs, newspaper and journal articles, inevitably tend to conceal some facts, even fabricate or distort truths. If people merely pay attention to one source or several sources, they are more likely to take one side quickly and scold the other, which readily causes negative results. For example, once I read a news report about a tragic that a little girl committed suicide due to his parents’ consistently blaming her for stealing classmate’s money. At first, when the girl was accused of steal, she tried to explain to her parents and swore she did not steal anything, leaving her parents confused. Unfortunately, local newspaper offices heard the incident and attempted to draw people’s attention by reporting that. Imagine the effects that media brought about, her parents, feeling so shameful and lost sensibility and all they can see was about how bad their daughter was and what she had done adversely to others from newspapers, so they ignored the truth. Under such a pressure, the girl finally decided to kill herself. Later, assisted with police, the case was completely investigated and it proved that she did not steal money. If the parents could obtain more information, rather than only focus on media’s negative reports, they would not treat their daughter with indifference, thus leading to an irretrievable situation.
Apart from improving accuracy, obtaining information from diversified channels is indispensable when it comes to giving people a comprehensive report of what happened. Restricted by interpersonal relationships and other relevant factors, each medium gathers material about a certain incident, upholding their own stand. Therefore, information acquired from one source always represents their experiences and attitudes within certain limit. For example, an event happened in China, and a report released from foreign media was prone to be confined in geological limitation, as it was difficult for them to witness what really happened and conducted a survey. As a result, for people in foreign countries, they had great possibilities to feel perplexed with a smattering knowledge. Instead, for people at home, they could receive information from different local offices, which were given opportunities to deeply investigate, to study and even to immerse themselves in the public, thus collecting more information.
In conclusion, I prefer to obtain information from a variety of sources, for it notonly ensures
preciseness, but also offers people with all-around understanding of information.
