　　一、破题关键

　　此题破题关键在于题干中出现的“最好的方式”(the best way)。考生看到有类似最好、最佳等表述在题干中出现，首先应该判断是批驳还是支持?从实战角度考虑，选择批驳理由更充分、语言更丰富、文章结构也更清晰，因此毫无疑问我们选择论证读报刊杂志不是最好的方式。

　　关于批驳论证，文韬老师一向建议考生采取让步结构，从比较论证、发觉自身两个层次建立分论点。例如考生可以比较读报刊杂志和其他方式相比，哪个更能方便大家了解外国的风土人情。事实上网站、微博、微信、脸书等平台对传统媒体的冲击司空见惯，并不是什么新鲜事，考生可以从这个角度着手举出大量例证。此外报章杂志本身并不一定可信，很多媒体为了提高销量、吸引眼球，提供虚假信息，因此考生也可以从报刊杂志自身的问题展开论证。

　　诚然读报刊杂志是了解外国的一种方式。通过阅读介绍文章、看插图插画等，读者足不出户就可以了解国外的名胜景观、风土人情。

　　但是了解外国的方式有很多，上网比读报刊杂志好。阅读网上的信息更快、更方便。

　　此外读报刊杂志有时不仅不是最好的方式，甚至是不好的。一些报纸杂志可信度低、恶意炒作、耸人听闻，读者很可能被误导，而不能了解外国的真实情况。

　　三、文章示例

　　Arthur Miller once said, “a good newspaper is a nation talking to it.” Whenever this epigraph of Arthur Miller is mentioned, there will be a couple of conservative journalists advocating that traditional media such as newspapers and magazines are the best way of acquiring panoramic view of a foreign country. However, as far as I am concerned, reading newspapers and magazines is a good way, but not the best.

　　At first glance, some authorized newspapers specializing in providing their readers with general information of a country are, to some degree, reliable. Because most newspaper readers are not experts in tourism or cultural studies, a good way of getting the general knowledge of a foreign country is to buy some newspapers or magazines. For example, by reading articles or enjoying pictures of the United States in National Geography magazine, a Chinese reader will have an excellent opportunity to know Yellow Stone National Park or Rocky Mountain in America. By reading journals like Discovery Chinese Version, a Japanese tourist can have a great impression on the Great Wall and Forbidden City in China.

　　Advisable though scanning newspapers is, it can not compete with the benefits that surfing the internet brings about, especially when the convenience brought by Twitter or Facebook is taken into account. Twitter or online chat room is, without a doubt, a rich source of instantly update information about the popular culture of a nation. For instance, no sooner had Guns and Roses released their latest album in the United States, than a Chinese fan could download it from the official website. Sometimes, only by logging on the Twitter of Kobe can basketball fans follow his NBA schedule. Therefore, compared with waiting for several days to be informed by newspapers, surfing the internet is a better way to share and discover what is happening in a foreign country right now.

　　Finally, the negative effects of a lot of newspapers and magazines should be considered: when people indulge in the Sargasso sea of information, isn’t it necessary for them to take the credibility of newspapers into consideration? Nowadays, newspaper readers are more likely to be exposed to a large number of misleading advertisements and sensational rumors with exaggerating and eye-catching rhetoric. Actually, in order to guarantee the commercial profits of the newspaper, seldom can editors refuse the enticement from alcohol or tobacco merchants. What is more, things even go worse for magazines, because most of them taking advantage of their popularity to dig up dirt of film stars or pop singers have already lost their credibility. Thereby, how can people know a foreign country by believing in the report by the paparazzi of those “uncrowned kings”?

　　Therefore, though some stubborn journalists or columnists may argue that newspapers and magazines are the best channel of learning about a foreign country, it is surfing the internet that I will approve of. First, it is much more convenient for readers to gain information of a nation by browsing the websites. In addition, most newspapers and magazines are littered with waste information, so they can not be called a good way of knowing a foreign country to some extent, let alone the best.
